Ahhhh.....

My favorite thing about living in New England...

Isn't that amazing?!?!!  It was our annual hayride through the woods yesterday and oh what a day it was.  The weather, the colors, the friends: just perfect!  This is my favorite spot on our trail and it takes my breath away every time.

Wishing you all a few breathless moments this season...

Something funny before I play catch-up

Wow!  What a busy school year it was.  And, even though I may not have had time to post in a while, I did manage to keep crafting a bit.  While sorting through pics of my projects to share, I stumbled across this one: my sweet, funny Dory, in her typical "I'm waiting for dinner" pose, lol!

She makes me laugh every day.

Thanks for visiting and I'll be back soon to play catch-up!

Pagoda Night-Light Box

I have been trying to be good about my crafty time management, but ohgosh did I push it to the limit today!

My daughter's last after-school art class was this afternoon.  She has been participating in this program for the past three years, but next year she will be attending a different school so she won't have this program available.  We both want to cry about that.  This teacher is amazing!  She is a true artist to the core - complete with that flowy, artsy personality.  (I wish I had better words to describe that, lol!)

I wanted to make a thank you gift to give her after class today.  I started picking out papers last week and figured I'd cut and glue this weekend.  But one thing after another happened and time got away from me, sooo....here I was this morning, left with 4 hours today to create.  YIKES!  But I didn't freak out, I just took it one gluey piece at a time.

This is a bigger project than I was expecting.  It is from the SVGcuts Spring Blossoms SVG Kit.  I didn't have any pastel or springy floral papers that jumped out at me,  so I decided on Graphic 45's Couture collection.  I LOVE the deep teal and orange-reds with the glittery gold and black.

The curvy roof was a little tricky but I did manage to make it work.  With a half hour to go I still wasn't sure I could finish, but somehow I did!  I even managed a quick minute to take a couple pics. Then as I was heading for the door I noticed that I forgot some trim pieces!  Eeeek!  I ran back in, glued them on in a flash and took another quick pic.  No time to wrap it so I just popped it in a build-a-bear bag (really classy, eh?) and flew.

Have you ever cut a deadline THAT close before?  No time to double check anything, no time to tweak and tinker and embellish, no chance to sit with a big goofy grin on your face as you admire your hard work (everyone does that don't they?).  But in the end I got it done, and she loved it, so that is what counts :)

Have an EGGcellent and HOPPY Easter peeps!

I love box cards, especially ones with unexpected designs.  SVGCuts did it again with this sort of a sliceform and sort of a diorama box card.  It is part of their Springtime Box Cards SVG Kit.  They remind me of the gorgeous hollow easter eggs you see with the little scenes inside.

I could totally have fun blinging these out, but instead I opted to just make them as designed.  They are just so pretty even without any extra tinkering.  Thanks again Mary!  You rock!

Bunny Candy Jar

We made this super cute bunny for an Easter gift.  The design is part of the Bunny Hop SVG Kit by SVGCuts.  I love how easy it was to put together, and it is just the right size for candy.  But if you ask my daughter, she thinks it is wrong on every level that you pop the bunny's head off to get to the candy, lol!

I guess she finally got over the whole head popping thing though because she asked me to make one for us now.  ;)

Meet my new friend - chalk paint!

I've heard about chalk paint but never really saw what all the hype was.  And then this week I finally tried some.  OHMYGOSH!!  I am in love!

Last week in Michael's I found some cute mini mason jars by Tim Holtz and decided to paint them.  I used Folk Art and Waverly chalk paints in white, mustard yellow and moss green, then finished with a clear wax.  They ended up looking almost like a patina color - I just love it!

It was so much fun getting a little messy again with paints instead of just glue - layering colors, distressing with sandpaper, and adding some random buttons to dress them up a bit.  Now my beautiful Prismas have a super cute spot on my table, where they will hopefully tempt me more often to play!

Chalk paint goes on so easily without a primer, and they distress so nicely - I just want to paint everything.  Seriously, everything!

If you haven't tried chalk paints yet, you need to - their hype is well earned!  You can thank me later.  :)

Dragonfly Stained "Glass" Lamp

I snagged the SVGCuts Boho Butterflies SVG Kit when it came out in August, but life has kept me very busy and I didn't get a chance to make this lamp until now. Can you see the glow behind that front dragonfly? It really works! There's an LED candle stick light hidden inside the lamp base.

The bronze base and the black "lead" are cut from metallic cardstock from Michael's.  That stuff cuts like butter!  And I love the shimmer.  The "glass" pieces are white vellum that I colored with alcohol inks.  I tried using my Bic markers and also my Distress markers, but I just didn't like the way the colors streaked.  So I gave alcohol inks a try and I really love the colors!  I think I need to play with these more (and get a few more colors!).  For fun I also added a few skittles (colored with the inks too) as little glass pebbles on the dragonfly body.

Another amazing design Miss Mary!!
